Guitars & Composer
Andy is a well travelled and well seasoned musician. Born and raised in the Norfolk Delta he picked up the guitar at an early age and is a familiar face on the local and not so local blues scene. When not playing with the Mojos or as a hired gun with a number of ill-reputed individuals, he is hardly ever seen. Some say he was a product of the Cold War and runs on Sovtek valves. All we know is that he's one hell of a guitarist.
Drums & Percussion
Matt started playing drums at the age of 8 studying the Rockschool exams, which despite the name, feature all kinds of musical genres which has given Matt the experience and ability to play many different styles. He completed his Grade 8 at the age of 14, passing with a distinction. He has been the resident drummer for the Norwich Jazz Jam since he was 14 years old. The jam is held every Monday in Norwich which enables Matt to play with experienced professional musicians gaining invaluable experience in a jam session without the benefit of extensive preparation. Matt was the drummer for Groovapolitan, a Norwich based funk and disco band, and also for About Them Shoes. He teaches drums and also works as a session drummer depping with bands, in addition to performing as a pit musician for musical productions
Carleton Van Selman
Keyboards & Composer
Carl is an internationally experienced keyboard player and singer, having played with some big names. He was not classically trained as a pianist and when he was only nine years old, he wasn't a guest pianist with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Albert Hall in London. Carl has worked, however, for the past 30 years in most musical forms, playing, arranging or composing in Jazz, Blues, Soul and Funk (also a bit of Cajun on his piano accordion but it's best not to mention that). An exceptionally gifted player, his performances leave a lasting impression on anyone that is fortunate enough to hear him play and sing. What the press have said about Carl "Everything he does comes out very special".
Bass & Sage Advisor
Birmingham born Trev’s musical gestation began in the crucial ten years from 1968, being exposed to a heady cocktail of anything from blues to Prog Rock, playing these styles in many local bands. Now a native of London, the last two decades have drawn and expanded on this experience, which he now brings to the Mojo Preachers. Along the way Trev has been instrumental in the creation of ‘3am’, the ‘Bare Bones Boogie Band’, the Joe Anderton Band and more recently, played a key role in the original incarnation of the ‘Malaya Blue Band’. All of this has been supplemented by his occasional appearances with his own band, TT&F and frequent, in demand, guest slots with other bands.
Vocals and Lyricist
Born and raised in a big old shack in the middle of nowhere off an old highway in a bohemian time of everything from Pink Floyd to Bob Dylan, Patsy Cline to Frank Zappa. Sophie discovered herself finding her heart in the agony and ecstasy of all things Blue. Starting out with The Boswells Big Band back in the 90's, moving on to sing with Function Band Night Train for over ten years. Needing to stretch her musical legs and vent her urge to explore her own take on life she finds herself preaching her dark and honest brand of poetry with The Mojos.
